Feedback required on council policies and plans

The City of Victor Harbor is seeking community feedback on several draft plans and policies that will shape how Victor Harbor cares for the coast, environment and community.

Coastal Adaptation Master Plan (Hindmarsh to Inman Rivers)

Like most coastal areas around Australia, Victor Harbor’s much-loved foreshore is at risk of coastal erosion and flooding from projected sea level rise and increasing storm frequency associated with climate change.

To proactively plan for these projected impacts, Council has developed a draft Coastal Adaptation Master Plan for the coastline between the Hindmarsh and Inman Rivers.

Community members were asked to provide feedback on preliminary options for managing this stretch of coastline in March 2026.

Feedback is now being sought on the draft Coastal Adaptation Master Plan before it is finalised.

Climate Change Policy

To provide a clear framework to guide how Council plans for, responds to and mitigates the impacts of climate change, a draft Climate Change Policy has been developed.

The policy will set the overall direction for how climate change is considered in Council decision‐making, planning and service delivery now and into the future.

Residents, ratepayers, businesses, community groups and anyone with an interest in the future of Victor Harbor is encouraged to share their feedback.

Dog and Cat Management Plan 2025-2030

Council’s Dog and Cat Management Plan is also being updated.

This document guides how Council supports responsible dog and cat ownership, promotes animal welfare and minimises nuisance to the community.

All community members, including those who own pets and those who don’t, are invited to share their feedback.

City of Victor Harbor Chief Executive Officer Victoria MacKirdy encouraged residents and those interested in the future of Victor Harbor to learn more.

“These important plans and policies help guide how Council plans for the future and responds to some of the key challenges and opportunities facing our community,” Ms MacKirdy said.

“Community input is essential to ensuring these documents reflect local values, priorities and expectations and we encourage anyone with an interest to take part in the consultations.

“Whether it’s protecting our coastline, planning for climate impacts or supporting responsible pet ownership, your feedback will help shape the final outcomes and our future direction as a city.”

Learn more about each project and complete a survey at www.yoursay.victor.sa.gov.au or collect hard copy information from the City of Victor Harbor Civic Centre (1 Bay Road, Victor Harbor).

All feedback must be received by 5pm on Friday, May 29.
