Delve into history of photographs

The Fleurieu Antiques and Collectables Group can expect a presentation which will be a little different from usual this March.

Don Cannan from the South Coast Camera Club will be the guest speaker.

He has asked members to bring old cameras to illustrate the history of photography, but also to bring old family photographs.

He will reprint these photographs to create a book.

At the meeting last month, Lee Blair-Jenke gave a comprehensive overview of collecting militaria.

He showed examples from his own extensive collection, including swords, firearms, uniforms, helmets, badges and medals.

His collection, he explained is largely British, but he does have some German pieces from World War I.

A number of his pieces have the name of the soldier who originally owned them inscribed on them.

Members continued the militaria theme in the Show and Tell segment and the Mystery Item, brought by Peter Wood, turned out to be a pair of folding wire cutters with the Australian Defence Forces logo on them.

The Members Display, however, brought by Brenda Brown, made a contrast, as it was a sparkling show of glass paperweights.

Visitors to the coming meeting on Sunday afternoon, March 9 at Carrickalinga House, Victor Harbor are invited to bring old cameras, if they would like Don Cannan’s assessment of them.

For more information, phone Anne on 8552 6926.
