Rotary busy at Easter Markets

Members of the Rotary Club of Encounter Bay will be busy over the Easter weekend as, in addition to their normal markets at Port Elliot’s Lakala Reserve and at Goolwa Wharf on the first and third Saturdays and Sundays of each month, they are holding extra markets during the holiday weekend and look forward to welcoming lots of visitors.

Good Friday, March 29, will see Jaralde Park at Goolwa, next to the wharf, come alive from 9am until 2pm as around 80 stall holders set up, selling a wide variety of goods from clothing to plants, coffee to books, bric a brac to jewellery and so much more.

The action will move to Lakala Reserve at Port Elliot on Easter Saturday, again from 9am until 2pm as the ‘village green’ atmosphere, will enable locals and holiday makers to browse the stalls, perhaps trying some local produce or buying a special souvenir of their visit.

Then on Easter Day, March 31, it will be back to Goolwa for another market at Jaralde Park.

The Rotary Club of Encounter Bay members Ken Carter said the club used funds raised by these markets to support many local, national and international projects.

“For example at a March meeting of the club, members welcomed three extraordinary local Year 12 students, Madi Koch, Chloe McPherson and Bell Parker, who had recently taken part in the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra with the financial support of three local Rotary Clubs, Encounter Bay, Victor Harbor and Goolwa,” Ken said.

“In their presentation the three girls made it very clear that they had gained a great deal from their experiences which ranged from fossil digging and DNA identification, to visiting the Mount Stromlo Observatory and inspecting the Snowy 2.0 Hydro Scheme, as well as taking part in rocket building and seeing the Hadron Collider.

“They also spoke about the networking opportunities and university and career choices that they were able to research.

“The girls all expressed their gratitude to the club for this wonderful opportunity and were soundly applauded by the club members for their maturity and enthusiasm.”
